Tuesday - Firefighters!
Our neighbors are AMAZING and invited us to visit a fire station where the pop of the family works. They actually were doing a training that day, which meant they were less free to interact but we got to see a lot of what they prepare for in an emergency. We watched them move someone who had broken their leg and saw them smash open a door in a door frame. Apparently one very big part of their training is learning how to properly break things (cars, doors, you name it) so that they can safely help people out. Clesse was ecstatic to see the ambulance and fire truck and get a chance to clamber inside. Sis was a little less impressed, but since our neighbors have two sweet girls she played with them while Clesse enjoyed himself.
Wednesday - Postal workers!
I found these cute letters to help the kids work on numbers. I had Clesse just count and Charlotte count and then open each one up, trace a number on the left and write it by herself on the right. She's been writing a few numbers backwards and I wanted her to get some repetition doing it the right way. We put together these mailboxes and I let the kiddos decorate them however they wanted to put the letters into.
We sent sissy off to pre-school in the afternoon 😭. I enjoyed taking my time with Clesse's nap and reading some extra books to him and then missed Charlotte like crazy. Picking her up from school is one of my favorite things though, because the time apart really does us some good. We get along so much better when we get those few hours because we make a point to enjoy our time together so much more. I really don't know what I'll do when she's in Kindergarten next year!!
Thursday
Sis woke up in the morning and wanted to continue putting letters in her mailbox, which was so satisfying. It's always good to find an activity that your kid wakes up wanting to do. We spent a lot of the day either playing outside or working on our town. We added these community workers and where they work using these signs and added in whatever else we wanted. It actually ended up being an awesome exercise in city planning as well. Charlotte put the library near the school, and the fire station too so the kids could have fun looking at the trucks. It was really sweet! She also was unhappy with how a road turned out, so we turned it into a construction site. I added some dotted words for all the occupations we covered for Charlotte to trace and practice sounding out.
Friday
Aunt Sofie - aka my best friend growing up - is in town with Ben! They got in late the night before and came bearing gifts for the kids, one of which was this awesome birdhouse construction kit that the kids had a BLAST building and decorating. They spent a lot of the weekend getting to know my best friend who I haven't seen in over two years because of COVID.
Clesse also used these pre-writing sets. He didn't do great, but it's a start to learning how to write! I'm excited for him to get that motor skill down now that he recognizes so many letters.
What a fun week - can't beat a trip to the fire station :) So many great and fun learning activities and your kids just keep growing in smarts and size by the week! So great that Sofie got to visit.
