Week of August 16 - Unicorns & Rainbows

 Monday

If you know my sweet little Charlotte, then you'll probably be surprised that it took us this long to get to a unicorns & rainbows week. She was very excited when she thought of the theme and Clesse knows how much she loves unicorns and gets pretty excited to see them too.

Today was a bit of a catch up day at home, so we didn't do too much mommy pre-school. But I did want to work on helping Clesse identify numbers since he's got letters down pretty well, so we worked on that a little bit. He did a dabber sheet while sissy did a counting sheet that can turn into a little booklet. We also put together a number train which Clesse has been dragging around the floor going, "chugga chugga choo choo!" It's been very cute!

The kids played ridiculously cute together today, which made it a lot easier on me to get a few things done around the house. I love them so much and love to watch their relationships with each other develop!

Tuesday

I've been trying really hard to get Charlotte more comfortable writing her name in proper case instead of all uppercase, but she gets pretty frustrated. She tends to write "h" backwards, and I think it keeps her from wanting to try at all once she sees that it's not quite right. I thought having her do it multiple times in a row would be good for her to get a little extra practice!

Clesse used dot stickers to spell his name today. He's getting pretty close - he knows that the end is "S-S-E!". When we finished gluing all the rainbow strips on, he was so cutely enamored with it. "Wow it's so beautiful! So many letters!" ๐Ÿ˜

After working on names, we made twirligigs!! They are super easy to make considering how much entertainment they bring.
The kids love to help me in the kitchen, so after we made twirligigs we took our ripe bananas and made a loaf of banana bread. The kids poured the ingredients and stirred, and right before putting it in the oven I attempted a rainbow swirl. It turned out better than I thought!

Wednesday

The boys have been napping really well, which makes it kind of hard to want to interrupt their naps and go out. With Koko on two naps and Clesse on just 1, we've got at least one boy napping a good chunk of the day. The kids were leading the day, so it was filled mostly with play. They also helped me put together a new dresser set I got for the big kids, they're both getting bigger and need a little more drawer space for their things!

Thursday

We built a fort! I got one of those kits that come with sticks and connectors and it held up great even with a one year old grabbing and shaking the fort we made. Luke probably had the most fun out of the three kids and had so much fun playing with his big sis in there. These two are getting along so well and it's so fun to watch how much they love each other!

After lunch I made a rainbow surprise for Clesse, aka baking soda and vinegar with food coloring hidden, one of our favorites! He was SO cutely surprised when each color came up, and as an added challenge I asked sissy to predict what color would come next. She's got the order of the rainbow pretty down now.
Once they were done making rainbows fizz, we made a few unicorns using a "Make-a-Unicorn" sticker book I picked up at Walmart when COVID first locked down everything. Both of the big kids love these kind of sticker creation type books, and I love how Clesse just loves everything, even if they're not cars (his absolute favorite).

While Clesse was napping, Charlotte wasn't ready for the unicorn fun to end, so she made this cute unicorn using her handprint as the body. She traced and cut out her handprint on her own and I was super proud of her, it's a lot to work scissors around!

In the evening when Kev was done with work, we played this color game that came in our KiwiCo box. Charlotte loved running around the house racing Kev to find items that match the color that you roll.

Friday

We made rainbow clouds today! I talked to Charlotte a little bit about how a cloud is made and how once it gets heavy, rain will start to fall out. I'm honestly a little unsure of any science past that, so when she wasn't asking questions I decided to let the educational part of this activity slide ๐Ÿ˜…

After the rainbow, we played this unicorn letter game. Charlotte thought it was too easy for her, so I told her she could be the "letter master" and pull out lower case letters from the bag while Clesse found the matching uppercase letter and fed the unicorns. But Charlotte ended up being way into it and would find the letters before Clesse. 4 year olds are funny like that!
